 Tragedy in Canada: Death of Jaffna Youth - Humanitarian Act Gives New Life to 6 People!

Brampton, Canada:  A tragic and moving event has occurred in Canada where a young Tamil man from Jaffna passed away after failing to receive timely medical treatment due to a misunderstanding. However, his selfless act of organ donation has given new life to six individuals.

What Happened 

Regipold Robert Kennedy (30), originally from Palaly, Jaffna, and a past pupil of St. Patrick's College, Jaffna, suddenly collapsed on the evening of April 13th while waiting for a bus in the city of Brampton.

Police officers who arrived at the scene reportedly mistook his condition for alcohol intoxication and issued him a fine. Due to this misinformation, there was a delay in providing him with emergency medical treatment even after he was taken to the hospital.

Shocking Medical Report

Medical tests confirmed that there was no trace of alcohol in his body. Instead, it was revealed that he had collapsed due to a sudden brain hemorrhage. Unfortunately, due to the delay in treatment, he succumbed to his condition despite medical efforts.

 "Acknowledging that it was a mistake to assume he was intoxicated, the police have now initiated an internal investigation into the matter."

Humanitarianism Even in Death

Kennedy, who had consented to organ donation prior to his passing, has given a new lease on life to six people through the donation of his organs, including his heart, liver, and kidneys, even after his death.

Current Issues

Citizenship He had obtained Canadian citizenship just three weeks prior to this incident.

Documentation Problems There are currently ongoing legal documentation challenges in either repatriating his body to Sri Lanka or bringing his mother, who resides in Jaffna, to Canada.

Demand for Justice The Canadian Tamil community has asserted that police negligence was the cause of his death and is strongly urging for a transparent and thorough investigation into the matter.
